Sir Reginald Von Bartlesby - work process

Description

So I started with the 3d model of a varkid from the game, but it wasn't exactly the same as Sir Reginald, so I had to make some changes. The actual 3d model is pretty low detailed, and when I printed out the parts, they needed a lot of hand sculpting to add most of the details. So the 3d prints were good to use as a base, or skeleton to sculpt the details on. I rarely sculpt, so this was a learning process for me. I used a medium hardness casteline as a sculpting medium and I'm pretty happy with how easy it is to work with.

The resin casting process was tough, the parts are thin and long, and have a habit of trapping air bubbles. I still need to remake the mold if I want to make more varkids if I want to resin cast them with zero bubbles. I attached the legs with metal pins and E6000, but I wanted to make sure it was fully supported by a stand, so I added a small acrylic rod in the base and made an acrylic stand. Good thing I did, too, because the jar got jostled around quite a bit at C2E2 and Anime Central, and Sir Reginald is still in great shape!
